Semi Caught Under Overpass

with 2 comments

Okay, this must be a truck-driver’s nightmare…  The driver determines that the the clearance given on the overpass is enough for him to get through cleanly, then, mid-way through the embarrassingly unthinkable happens.  He gets stuck!  According to some people in the know, this driver believes that the overpass had sunk and that the stated clearance was no longer correct.  Whatever the case, getting out of this fix is simple.  Just use a little logic and you can figure out how!  (This all happened today in Georgetown, S. Seattle.)

  1. Obvious solution, but are the valve stems from the inner wheel accessible from the center/medial? (I know it’s waaayyy late for a reply, but I just saw this and was curious)

  2. I’ve looked at this, and in a duel wheel configuration, like on a semi, you have valve stem extensions that bring the stem out through the outer rim. At least these extensions are available, and I’d assume practical. The “let the air out of the tires” solution still makes the best sense.
